Summer/Fall 2010 Running Clinics
Summer/Fall 2010 — starting June 9th / Marathon clinic starts June 2nd
Wednesday 6:30pm
Sunday 9:00am long run subject to demand
In June Peninsula Runners will once again be offering running clinics leading up to the very busy fall race season, including the Royal
Victoria Marathon weekend. Designed by experienced coaches for runners of
all levels to prepare them for their goals, be it the busy spring race season or motivation to get more fit, there is something for everyone. Pick
the group that is right for you, follow the training plan, and you will be posting PBs in no time. We are also adding a few new options to make the
clinic even more effective than ever.
What Are Peninsula Runners Clinics?
Our clinics were conceived to fill a gap that other clinics seem to neglect: getting faster. Using tools like track workouts, strength training,
intervals, and more, we have successfully broken through the plateau that many runners encounter with other programs.
Every Wednesday evening at 6:30 we meet in our pace and goal groups to work on those skills that aren't all
that fun to do alone, but sure make a difference to a runner's performance. In addition to the group runs, every group will have a training calendar
specific to their goal outlining their "homework," the runs and rest you need in between.
Standard Wednesday night clinic features include:
- Access to our online Members Only training calendar tailored to your goal.
- Personal coaching from our experienced run leaders.
- Informal group runs on Sunday morning at various locations.
- Guest Speaker lecture series (6pm, bi-weekly) from experts in the field on a range of topics related to running, health and fitness.
- A fun & motivating atmosphere.
- Tried & tested formula that gets results.
Why Join A Running Clinic?
There are a lot of good reasons to join a running group (and even a few bad ones), such as:
- Motivation — a regularly scheduled workout with friends in the same boat is a great reason to get out of the house and get it done.
- Specificity — sure anyone can just go out and run, but to achieve a goal safely and effectively, a coach and a training program takes a lot of
guesswork out of an already challenging endeavour.
- Accountability — a group of peers waiting up for you and a plan to follow can make all of the difference to a workout routine.
- Information — there is so much of it out there, how can you tell what applies to you? Having a coach familiar with your specific circumstances can
help assemble the choices that are right for you.
- Safety — injuries can happen, but training safely with a plan that builds in recovery and manageable mileage with a group looking out for you
will help lessen the chances.
Clinic Options
Our goals with all of our clinics are two-fold: getting faster and injury prevention. Depending on your own goal and fitness background, one of the
options below will work for you.
- Get Faster 1/2 Marathon & 8K Group $99.99
If your goal is the 8Km road race on the RVM weekend, then this speed-focused course is the one for you.
Expanding on the beginner training with a focus on getting faster, the group will incorporate speed workouts, intervals, hill training and more advanced
tools while keeping the mileage to a manageable level. Participants will be utilizing the Half Marathoners for workouts and group motivation.
- Learn to Run $99.99
If your current mileage is around 0 km a week but want to make running a part of your regular fitness routine, our clinic will teach you the fundamentals
of running at a learning oriented pace. Our motivating and experienced leaders begin with a run/walk training program that will gradually get you running
continuously and safely, and loving the results. The goal event of the Run/Walk group is the CIBC Run for the Cure traditionally held in late September
or early October.
- Marathon $129.99 Starts June 2nd
42.2km is an intimidating distance for anyone, even those with a strong running background.
Starting a week earlier in order to fit a healthy amount of build and recovery into the program, this group is designed for seasoned runners looking to
tackle the marathon for the first time or notch a PB in October.
